The word ‘myofascial’ refers to the muscle (myo) and fascia systems of the body that are often the causes of chronic and intense pain throughout the body.  This can be due to:

  • strenuous training
  • participation in endurance sport
  • sports related injuries
  • aging (drying out of fascia)
  • physical trauma such as accidents or operations, or
  • emotional trauma

In all these cases the fascia and muscle system of the body is subject to thickening, stiffening / shortening and drying out of these fibres.  Research has shown that these fibres, muscles and ligaments are all conected, right through the body.  Stress and tension (and therefore also pain) is put on other parts of the body also.  Serious injuries such as muscle or tendon tears can therefore result from this.  This treatment is also a proven therapy for increased performance and movement.

Most of these symptoms can be relieved through active and static myofascial release (Soft Tissue Mobilization) which are either stretching, cupping or massage techniques or a combination of them.
